RMS and AC Current and Voltage

In AC circuits, capacitors exhibit a resistance. This resistance is inversely proportional to capacitance. This lab will investigate how a capacitor affects the voltage and current in an AC circuit. Experimentation will verify the theoretical results for capacitive reactance and illustrate the principles behind capacitors in alternating currents.

An inductor creates a resistance within an AC source. This experiment will investigate the inductor with an AC source.

Faraday’s law:
Demonstrating the phenomenon of induced current.

Lenz's Law:
Directions of induced currents as a bar magnet moves along the axis of a conducting loop. If the bar magnet is stationary, there is no induced current.

Magnet

The activity used a small compass to map out the magnetic field surrounding a large bar magnet; denote the direction of the field with arrows.

The activity took a look at a bar magnet with iron filings sprinkled around it.
